In 2019, EUR 19 billion for new wind investments

Last year, the wind energy industry invested EUR 52 billion in Europe, of which EUR 19 billion was allocated to finance new wind farms – data comes from a report prepared by WindEurope.

In the ‘Financing and Investment Trends’ report in 2019, the wind energy industry invested EUR 51.6 billion in Europe, of which EUR 19 billion was allocated to finance new investments, 10.2 billion to refinance projects, and 22.6 billion to capital transactions , i.e. acquisitions at the project and corporate level, public capital transactions and private equity funds.

Data collected by WindEurope shows that investments in new onshore wind farms reached EUR 13.1 billion in 2019, which allowed to finance the construction of 10.3 GW of new capacity in this type of sources. A year earlier, EUR 14.7 billion was invested in the construction of land-based wind farms, which allowed financing 11.7 GW of wind power.

As far as offshore wind energy is concerned, the report shows that in 2019, 1.4 GW of new capacity was financed at the cost of EUR 6 billion, while a year earlier EUR 10.2 billion was invested in 4.3 GW of new offshore wind farms.

WindEurope also draws attention to large investments in onshore wind energy in Poland. The report shows that in 2019 in our country EUR 0.8 billion was allocated to finance new wind assets with a total capacity of 630 MW.
