The Council of the European Union has agreed a new target for the use of renewable energy in the perspective of 2030. It is a compromise between the earlier proposals of the European Commission and the later, more ambitious position of the European Parliament. The arrangements also provide for new facilitations in the process of investing in wind and photovoltaic farms, and also assume a mandatory, at least 49%, share of RES in energy consumed in buildings.

In the course of talks with representatives of the EP, a new target for RES was adopted at the level of 42.5%. At the same time, the Council and Parliament agreed on more ambitious targets for the share of green energy in specific sectors.
