According to experts of the Polish Economic Institute, solid fuels may be eliminated by burning in Polish cities by 2030, and a year later the share of renewable sources in final energy consumption may exceed 30% in Poland. This is more than current government plans anticipate. The report prepared by the Polish Economic Institute states that diversification of energy sources should consist primarily of a significant increase in the share in the Polish energy mix of renewable energy, at the expense of reducing the share of hard and brown coal.
According to Eurostat, in 2018 the share of renewable sources in energy production in Poland totaled 11.2 percent – towards the 15% target, which we should meet in line with our commitments in the EU by 2020.
The share of renewable energy sources in the Polish energy mix indicated in the PIE report is more than the level recorded in the government document “National Plan for Energy and Climate for 2021-2030”, which indicates the goal of increasing the share of green energy in the energy mix in 2030 to 21 percent . or 23 percent – as long as we get additional money from the European Union for our energy transformation. Meanwhile, in line with current EU objectives, the share of renewable energy in the EU energy mix in 2030 should be 32% at EU level.
Most experts from the Polish Economic Institute stated that the most probable time of realizing the thesis “The share of renewable sources in final energy consumption will exceed 30 percent” are 2026-2035. In the second round of the study, the percentage of such experts increased by 13 percentage points. The share of those claiming that the thesis can be implemented after 2035 has decreased significantly (from 41% to 25%). In the second round, the dominance of respondents who decided that the rapid development of renewable energy is inevitable has definitely increased. Nobody recognized that the thesis would never be implemented, but only a few that it would be implemented by the end of 2025.
According to experts, the factors that best support the thesis on the share of renewable sources in final energy consumption over 30 percent. there are high public expenditures as well as high quality and stability of law, but large was also attributed to active social attitudes of the inhabitants of Poland.
