According to the data published by Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne, there has been a significant increase in energy production from sources classified by PSE as “Other renewable”. In the first half of 2020, the share of RES in domestic production increased compared to the generation from the first half of 2019, which, however, is largely due to the decline in total energy production in Poland recorded this year.
In their reports on energy production in Poland, Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne includes generation from wind farms and professional hydropower plants. Other renewable energy sources – including photovoltaics, the installed capacity of which in Poland has recently been growing rapidly and already amounts to over 2.1 GW – are classified by PSE in one group referred to as “Other renewable”.
The latest PSE report shows that in June, the production of energy in the “Other renewable” category amounted to 249 GWh, while in the corresponding month of last year it was only 12 GWh. However, in the first half of this year, energy production from sources included in this group amounted to 829 GWh compared to 202 GWh in the corresponding period of 2019, which means an increase by 310.8%.
- In June, wind power plants generated 585 GWh of electricity, which was a generation lower than that recorded a year ago (692 GWh). In the first six months of this year, the generation from these sources amounted to 7859 GWh and was higher by 7%. from wind generation from the first half of 2019 (7343 GWh).
- Last month, hydroelectric plants included in this group by PSE generated 264 GWh, compared to 227 GWh in the corresponding month of 2019. The generation from these sources for the first half of this year was 1,392 GWh compared to 1,530 GWh a year ago.
Sources included in the group “Other renewable” in June had a share in total generation at the level of 2.25%, the share of wind farms was 5.28%, and commercial hydropower plants 2.39%. Together, this gives the share of RES in the national mix electricity generation in June at the level of 9.92% In the first half of 2020, the share of sources from the “Other renewable” group in domestic electricity production was 1.11%, the share of wind farms was 10.6%, and professional power plants water – 1.87% Together, this gives the share of RES in the energy generation mix in Poland at the level of 13.58%.
