The RE-Source association, promoting investments in renewable energy sources on the basis of commercial PPAs (Power Purchase Agreements), has published data showing that last year the capacity of photovoltaic power plants in Europe significantly increased, the energy from which was contracted on the basis of this type contracts.
Although in previous years in Europe commercial PPAs were mainly concluded for energy from wind farms, in 2020 there was a clear increase in contracts for energy from photovoltaic plants. Solar energy was responsible for 43% of the RES capacity contracted under PPAs in Europe. The concluded PPAs cover the purchase of energy from PV power plants with a capacity of 1.7 GW. Last year, 51 PPAs were signed in Europe with 33 companies, including 28 companies for the first time.
