Poland’s position on the zero net emission target for the EU by 2050

On 27 June, Secretary of State Tomasz Dąbrowski took part in the FT Energy Transition Strategies Summit organized by the Financial Times in London.

Minister Dąbrowski participated in a panel discussion focusing on the influence of various factors, including public opinion, social and economic issues, and the shaping of the state’s energy policy. He presented a vision of the energy transformation and signalled that by the end of this year, Poland will probably support the goal of zero net emissions for the EU by 2040.

According to Minister Dąbrowski, it is crucial to ensure stable electricity supplies at acceptable prices. The energy transformation would cost Poland about EUR 900 billion, and during the talks on the financial framework in the EU the amounts proposed were about EUR 5 billion. – this is the Minister. He pointed to plans to include in the future energy mix of Poland both an increase in the production of energy from renewable sources and nuclear power. He noted that the discussion on climate and energy policy objectives should take into account the social and economic costs that will have to be borne by EU regions with coal economies.
