According to the Rzeczpospolita daily, the EU profit tax mechanism, which in Poland is paid only by electricity companies, may be extended beyond the deadline set under the EU regulation.
In Poland, it has been operating since December 1, 2022 and, in accordance with the relevant act, is to be in force until the end of this year.
Meanwhile, in accordance with the EU regulation, the tax is to apply until the end of June 2023. The Ministry of Climate and Environment explains that the EU regulation gives flexibility as to the application of the mechanism, indicating only that its application until June 30, 2023 is mandatory, and after that date, EU law gives freedom to member states – this response of the ministry means that the paratax may stay with us for longer than required by Brussels.
