According to the Ordinance of the Minister of the Environment of 2012, in Poland a smog alarm is announced afterexceeding the 24 hour average value of 300 micrograms per cubic metre for PM10 dust. The information level forPM10 is 200 micrograms.
“The Regulation on alert andsmog information levels is issued by the Minister of the Environment inagreement with the Minister of Health. In recent days, we have proposed toreduce the levels to 250 and 150 micrograms per cubic metre for PM10 dust respectively. I am convinced that over the next few years we will see asignificant difference in air quality through investments in the Clean Airprogramme.” – said Minister Henryk Kowalczyk.
Ecological organizations dealing with the problem of smog stress that Poland has one of the highest levels ofinforming and alerting the public about air pollution in Europe. Although the levels are to be lowered, according to the proposal of the Ministry of the Environment they will be too high.
World Health Organisation (WHO) recommendations indicate that the daily limit values for PM10 should no texceed 50 micrograms and 25 micrograms per cubic metre for PM 2,5 dust.
