On September 29, 2022, the Sejm passed the act amending the act – Energy Law and the act on renewable energy sources, submitted by the Minister of Climate and Environment.
The act provides for:
- abolition of the so-called power exchange obligation, which provides for the obligation to trade electricity through the power exchange. Currently, this obligation applies mainly to producers of electricity from coal and gas.
- stricter penalties for the use of unlawful practices by energy companies, including market manipulation.
The new solutions are to enter into force 30 days after their publication in the Journal of Laws.
