According to information provided by the Polish Power Grids: The President of ERO approved the “Development plan for meeting current and future electricity demand”. The document covers the years 2021-2030. The Transmission System Development Plan took into account various scenarios for the development of the National Power System and indicates investments whose implementation is necessary to ensure reliable operation of the National Power System.

According to the data provided by the Polish Power Grid, renewable energy sources projects with a total capacity of over 13.5 GW are currently being processed at various stages of connection to the network. PSE also presents a forecast of how the capacity of individual RES in our country should increase in the next few years.

PSE informs that when it comes to the transmission network, currently investors have important connection agreements and construction permits planning to erect RES sources with a total capacity of 1,209 MW, including 1,181 MW are onshore wind farms, and 28 MW are included in the hybrid source category. In addition, investors planning to erect 3302 MW renewable energy sources, including 939 MW onshore wind farms, 117 MW hybrid onshore wind farms and 2246 MW offshore wind farms have contract to connect to the transmission network.

According to data from the Energy Market Agency, which is quoted by PSE, at the end of 2019 the domestic renewable energy potential consisted of:

  • Onshore wind farms with a net capacity of 5855 MW,
  • Water power plants 964 MW,
  • Solar farms 927 MW,
  • Biomass power plants 720 MW,
  • Biogas plants 234 MW,
  • Thermal municipal waste treatment installations 79 MW.

The forecast contained in the PSE report speaks of increasing the capacity of these sources in 2024 to 7678 MW in onshore wind energy, 2917 MW in photovoltaics, 987 MW in hydropower, 756 MW in biomass energy, 326 MW in biogas and 119 MW in thermal transformation installations waste. The launch of offshore wind farms has not yet been included in the PSE forecast until 2024.
