On the pages of the Government Legislation Center a draft act was amended to amend the act on renewable energy sources (list number UD88). The purpose of the amendment is to change the definition of energy wood. The effect is to increase the supply of wood harvested from forests that the energy sector will be able to burn.

According to the justification provided:

– Failure to change the definition of energy wood would result in a depreciation of the wood raw material harvested in forests as a result of reduced wood reception by industrial plants as a result of the COVID-19 virus pandemic. Leaving the obtained raw material in the forest may also result in an increased gradation of insect pests, which will negatively affect the country’s forest management as well as an increased fire risk in forests.

– The introduction of a new definition will prevent the depreciation of wood raw material harvested in forests as a result of reduced wood collection by industrial plants as a result of the COVID-19 virus pandemic. An additional factor stimulating the improvement of the economic situation by not reducing the acquisition of wood raw material will be employment stability in Zakład Usług Usług Leśnych.
