The Institute of Mineral and Energy Economy of the Polish Academy of Sciences, commissioned by the Ministry of Climate and Environment, prepared a report on the Evaluation of the functioning of the Aid Program in the form of an auction support system for producers of energy from renewable sources in the period 01.07.2016 – 31.12.2020.

The report shows that the auction system is an important mechanism for the development of renewable energy sources, because it contributes to the increase in the share of the installed RES installation capacity in the Polish National Power System. This system is an effective mechanism for supporting and promoting renewable energy technologies, therefore it should be extended. It does not exclude other forms of support and creates a further investment perspective. Additionally, it is complementary to other public aid mechanisms, especially investment aid.

This thesis was supported by data which showed that in the analyzed period, a total of 209.2 TWh of electricity was sold under the auction, with a total value of PLN 50.6 billion, and the total capacity of the winning installations was 7666.9 MW.

The conclusions resulting from the Report will be used by the Ministry of Climate and Environment for a possible modification of the auction support system for renewable energy sources for the coming years.
