The National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management will allocate PLN 10 million to support local government units involved in adaptation to climate change. A new competition for the greenest and blue infrastructure will start in June. This is part of the design of the Minister of Climate entitled “A city with a climate.”
Currently in Poland, almost 60% of the population lives in cities that are constantly developing, increasing pressure on the environment, and at the same time are areas particularly sensitive to climate change. These processes have a great impact on human health, including due to the problem of air pollution arising in cities, an unfavorable structure of urban space or difficult water management. Therefore, the purpose of the competition is to disseminate modern, effective and effective solutions in cities, serving to improve the quality of life of their inhabitants and to improve the resilience of cities to the effects of climate change.
The beneficiaries of the new part of the NFEPWM program “Adaptation to climate change” can be municipalities in two categories: up to 100,000 residents and over 100,000 residents. The key to success is meeting the requirement to have green and blue infrastructure projects ready for implementation.
Projects involving the implementation of functionally related investments in the field of rainwater management and shaping urban greenery will be rewarded, including: “green and blue” infrastructure, liquidation of impervious surfaces, rainwater management systems and development of green areas in cities.
The program envisages subsidies, up to a maximum of 50% of eligible costs, but no more than PLN 1 million for the investment. The implementation of this part of the “Adaptation to climate change” program is a pilot with the possibility of repeating the competition in subsequent years.
The NFEPWM competition is part of the project of the Minister of Climate entitled “A city with a climate”, which aims to improve the quality of life of residents of urban areas and to support cities on the path to transformation, towards climate neutrality and resilience to climate change.
