As PAP informs during a press meeting with the Minister of Investment and Development Jerzy Kwieciński, the issue of climate neutrality in the European Union (EU) was raised.

We are not against climate neutrality, but the transition of the Polish economy, which is based on coal in over 80%, to a carbon-free economy requires time and money – said the Minister. He pointed out that the costs of these activities will cost hundreds of billions of zlotys.

The Minister referred to the recent EU plans for a climate strategy, which assumed a gradual reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, which was to lead to neutrality and was to be achieved in the middle of the 21st century. Kwieciński pointed out that the acceleration which suddenly occurred in the proposals of European politicians was not preceded by any preparations or analyses.

Poland has taken measures to significantly reduce emissions of gases and dusts harmful to health, such as the Clean Air, Energia Plus and Geothermal Plus programmes – said Kwieciński.
