The EC launches consultations on limiting emissions by 2030

On March 31, the European Commission launched a public consultation on tightening the 2030 greenhouse gas emission reduction target. Currently, this target is 40 percent. Brussels emphasizes that it will not give up its climate ambitions through the coronavirus.

The draft climate law presented by the European Commission in early March assumes that the plan to increase the CO2 reduction target by 2030 to 50 percent. with the possibility of reaching minus 55 percent. compared to 1990 levels, it will be presented in September. The consultation launched on Tuesday will give stakeholders and citizens a chance to respond to these ideas.

The EC has announced that it will propose the introduction of a new objective into EU law, first by amending the recently proposed European climate law, and then through legislative proposals for various sectors. The consultation will be open for 12 weeks from March 31 to June 23, 2020. All citizens and organizations can take part in the consultations.
