At a meeting of the Parliamentary Subcommittee for politics and development of intelligent cities and electromobility, Deputy Minister of Energy Tadeusz Skobel informed that the draft improvement of the Energy Law, which includes regulations concerning energy storage, would be directed to work in the Sejm by the end of March this year.

Representatives of the Ministry of Energy emphasize that in Polish law there are no consistent definitions in the field of storage and no specific rules of connecting warehouses to the network, which are currently treated as generating units. A method for tariffs and network charges is needed so that the charge is not double-counted.

The Ministry of Energy has defined energy storage facilities as follows: “an electricity storage facility”;. – this definition is to be transferred immediately also to the Renewable Energy Sources Act or the Power Market Act.

Energy storage, on the other hand, was defined as ‘the conversion of electricity taken from the grid or produced by a generation unit connected to the grid and cooperating with the grid into another form of energy, its storage and its subsequent conversion into electricity and its injection into the grid’;.

In addition, the Ministry of Energy proposed to appoint a Storage System Operator, who is to be obliged to prepare instructions for the operation and operation of the storage facility. It will have 3 months from the date of entry into force of the amendments to the Energy Law.
