The Ministry of Energy presented an updated and extended draft of the document “Poland’s energy policy until 2040 – strategy for the development of the fuel and energy sector” (PEP2040).
– We present the draft Polish Energy Policy updated until 2040 after social consultations. It takes into account many of the comments made, and its priority is to preserve the evolutionary nature of the transformation of the Polish energy sector so that it runs in a safe way for people and the economy – emphasizes Minister of Energy Krzysztof Tchórzewski.
The updated strategy assumes:
- 50-60 percent share of coal in electricity generation in 2030;
- 21-23 percent renewable energy in final gross energy consumption in 2033;
- implementation of nuclear energy in 2033,
- reduction of CO2 emissions by 30 percent compared to 1990,
- energy efficiency increased by 23 percent by 2030 (compared to forecasts of primary energy consumption from 2007).
The previous version of the document assumed:
- 60 percent of the share of coal in electricity production in 2030;
- 21 percent of RES in final gross energy consumption in 2033
- implementation of nuclear energy in 2033,
- reduction of CO2 emissions by 30 percent compared to 1990;
- increase of energy efficiency by 23 percent by 2030 (compared to forecasts of primary energy consumption from 2007).
The updated version of the document provides for an increase compared to the previous version of the forecasted installed capacity of onshore wind farms to 9761 MW in 2040 (instead of 800 MW) and a reduction in the share of offshore wind energy to 7985 MW (instead of 10 300 MW), as well as photovoltaics to 16 062 MW (instead of 20,200 MW).
Moreover, the document indicates that the target of RES participation for 2030 may be in the range of 21-23% (instead of 21%).
In addition to the draft basic document PEP2040, the Ministry of Energy also presents three annexes, which are its integral parts:
- Assessment of the implementation of the previous energy policy of the state
- Conclusions from prognostic analyzes for the energy sector
- Strategic environmental impact assessment PEP2040
Comments on documents can be submitted until November 29, 2019.
