Problems of connection conditions for energy storage

  • Reading time:2 mins read

Last year, investors preparing energy storage projects applied for the issuance of connection conditions – only to the transmission network – for installations with a capacity calculated in gigawatts. The Ministry of Climate and Environment points out that many times investors who do not have the appropriate financial capabilities are behind such applications. As a result, when submitting connection applications, they block the place in the network for investments that have a chance for implementation.

The problem of refusals to issue connection conditions for energy storage by Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne was pointed out by MP from the Civic Coalition, Michał Jaros, in an interpellation addressed to the Ministry of Climate and Environment.

Deputy Minister of Climate and the government plenipotentiary for renewable energy, Ireneusz Zyska, answered the questions of MP Jaros.

In response, Deputy Minister Zyska referred to the information obtained during talks with representatives of Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne S.A., which showed that by May 2021 investors had submitted applications to PSE to define grid connection conditions for even several GW of electricity storage capacity.

As indicated by the governmental plenipotentiary for renewable energy sources, applications were submitted by entities that in fact did not have adequate financial resources and realistic investment plans.
