Thanks to the Interim Coupling Project, the 4M Market Coupling countries (Czech Republic, Romania, Slovakia and Hungary) were connected with the Multi-Regional Coupling area (e.g. Austria, Germany, Poland) by introducing capacity allocation based on calculation of net transmission capacity (net transfer capacity, NTC). This means introducing one common auction on electricity exchanges for market participants in all countries in the MRC and 4M MC areas under the Single Day-Ahead Coupling (SDAC) mechanism.
From now on, implicit auctions will be used in Poland, Austria, Germany, the Czech Republic, Romania, Slovakia and Hungary on the existing cross-border connections between these countries. It involves the allocation of both transmission capacity and energy. The first physical delivery of the energy so purchased will take place today, June 18, 2021.
The implementation of the Interim Coupling Project is an important step towards the creation of the Single European Day Ahead Market (SDAC).
