Supporting Member of the Association, ACCIONA has signed a five-year Virtual Electricity Sales Agreement (VPPA) with international automotive manufacturer Brembo in order to partially meet the energy needs of its production facilities in Poland and contribute to the implementation of Brembo’s decarbonisation and sustainable development program.
Virtual PPA does not require physical delivery of electricity to the customer. Instead, ACCIONA will feed 100,000 MWh of green energy to the grid annually and provide the associated guarantees of origin to Brembo Polska. The energy will come from ACCIONA’s Krobia I wind farm with a capacity of 63 MW located in the Greater Poland Voivodeship. The agreement entered into force on February 1, 2021.
For ACCIONA, the VPPA’s agreement with Brembo strengthens the trade price structure and reduces the company’s exposure to market price volatility. In the case of Brembo, the agreement allows the company to optimize costs, ensure access to clean energy and progress towards achieving emission reduction targets.
Brembo has set itself the ambitious goal of becoming a carbon neutral company by 2040. This is part of the new strategic vision “Turning Energy into Inspiration” that the company launched in 2020 with the goal of providing solutions for the automotive market while ensuring high performance and low emissions.
“This partnership is a clear example of how industry and utilities can join forces to achieve their decarbonisation goals. Brembo is a leader in sustainability in the automotive sector and we are delighted to be able to contribute to the company’s goals on environmental protection” – said Klaus Falgiani, Europe director of ACCIONA’s Energy Division.
