One of the main issues raised during the conversation between Michał Kurtyka, Minister of Climate and Environment, and Margrethe Vestager, Vice-President of the European Commission, was the new formula for calculating the capacity fee, which is to be proposed in the amendment to the Act on the Capacity Market.
The head of the climate ministry assures that the proposed system is to promote customers with low fluctuations in energy consumption, thus contributing to the stabilization of the power system, which is the goal of the capacity market. The new solution will be a response to postulates submitted by entrepreneurs, especially by the so-called energy-intensive customers.
During the talks between Minister Kurtyka and the Vice-President of the European Commission, it was confirmed that the new proposal for calculating the capacity fee would not require notification to the European Commission. In addition, the Ministry of Climate is to withdraw the application so far processed by the European Commission concerning the notification of allowances for the energy-intensive industry in the capacity market.
