The governmental draft amendment to the act on departments of government administration and certain other acts has been published on the website of the Sejm. It shows that the minister for climate is to shape and pursue a policy for a climate-neutral economy.
In the Regulatory Impact Assessment (RIA) of the draft amendment, it can be read that due to the ever increasing political, economic and social importance of the issue of climate neutrality, the “climate” administration section will indicate “transformation towards climate neutrality” as an area within which the minister participates in shaping the international climate policy and sustainable development policy.
The “climate” section will also include issues related to the formulation and implementation of policies for a climate-neutral economy. The government points to the need to design and implement comprehensive changes in all sectors of the economy, aimed at significant reduction of emissions and increase of removals. This will mainly concern the modernization of the energy sector, as well as the introduction of new transport models, changes in agriculture and efforts to increase absorption by forests. Additionally, it should be noted that the need to draft a document presenting action strategies in this area results directly from the Regulation on the Management of the Energy Union.
