On August 6, 2020, the Ministry of Climate sent for public consultation a draft resolution of the Council of Ministers on the update of the multi-annual “Polish Nuclear Power Program”. Comments on the document can be submitted until August 21 this year.

According to the draft, the lowest system costs are generated by disposable sources characterized by the ability to produce energy on demand according to the demand profile of consumers, a high rate of power utilization during the year and the possibility of building in convenient network nodes, close to energy demand centers. System maintenance costs increase significantly in the case of uncontrollable sources such as wind and solar technologies. Unpredictability of operation and uncertainty of deliveries, location constraints due to wind and sun conditions, asynchronous operation reducing system inertia and low power concentration are factors that hinder safe and cost-effective management of the system.

Moreover, the authors of the project in the modeled power structures installed in the power system in the years 2021-2045 anticipate values significantly different from those provided for in the National Energy and Climate Plan for 2021-2030 submitted to the European Commission, as well as the updated draft of the Polish Energy Policy for 2040 According to the arguments provided for in the draft, the development of nuclear energy is to significantly limit the development of photovoltaic installations and onshore wind energy.
