The European Commission announced the launch of the revision of the Renewable Energy Directive and the Energy Efficiency Directive.<\/span> The Commission has announced a consultation of “roadmaps” for the revision of both directives.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

According to the rationale provided, the review of both Directives will be instrumental in determining how an energy policy on renewable energy sources and energy efficiency will contribute to the achievement of the European Green Deal’s climate and environmental ambitions.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

According to the European Commission, the roadmap for the Renewable Energy Directive<\/a> will assess whether the EU’s renewable energy target of at least 32% is<\/span> for 2030 should be raised and whether other parts of the directive need to be adapted in line with the green deal, including the biodiversity strategy.<\/span> The EC explains that the roadmap takes the form of a preliminary assessment of the effects of increasing the EU’s RES target.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

In contrast, the roadmap for the Energy Efficiency Directive<\/a> aims to assess the adequacy of existing legislation to meet the existing energy efficiency target of at least 32.5%.<\/span> by 2030<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The Commission has published roadmaps for the review of both directives to which comments can be submitted by 21 September.<\/span> The next stage of the review of both directives are to open public consultations that the European Commission wants to conduct at the end of this year.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
