France has decided to lower the tariffs for solar farms previously guaranteed in contracts with investors. The cuts will cover installations launched before 2011 with a capacity of at least 250 kW. As estimated by the French ministry, feed-in tariffs for such projects cover less than 5 percent of renewable energy production, and constitute as much as 1/3 of the costs of the French support system for renewable energy. Lowering tariffs for these installations may result in savings of 300-400 million euro. The cuts are to enter into force at the beginning of 2021, but must be approved by parliament beforehand. The French RES industry hopes that at this stage it will be possible to moderate the government’s proposals.
