The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is returning to financing renewable energy sources in Poland. Thanks to the new mechanism of support for RES. The project will be the first large-scale onshore wind farm to be financed under the new support mechanism.

The EBRD will support the construction of an onshore 220 MW Potęgowo wind farm in the form of a loan. The amount of support will amount to PLN 209 million. The wind power plant will be located in north-eastern Poland and will be operated by Potęgowo Mashav Sp. z o. o. , i. e. a special purpose vehicle established in Poland. Its majority shareholder is the Israel Infrastructure Fund. The total investment cost amounts to PLN 1,25 billion.

Its main objective is to enable Poland to increase the share of renewable energy sources in the energy mix. Currently, Poland remains dependent on coal for almost 80% of its electricity generation, and reducing this dependence is a major challenge. All EU Member States have committed to acquire at least 32% of the final RES share by 2030.
